CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- It took Tyner football a month to get its first win of the 2013 season.
Now the Rams are back to zero.
Head coach Wayne Turner confirmed his team has forfeited its two wins, which came over Soddy-Daisy and Central, for using an academically ineligible player. Turner discovered the error this week and immediately self-reported the issue.
"It's just one of those things," Turner said via cell phone Wednesday afternoon. "It was just an oversight, not something that anyone did intentionally. It was my mistake with a paperwork issue."
As a result of the move, Soddy-Daisy and Central both improve to 3-4 overall. The Purple Pounders also improve to 1-2 in District 6-AA play.
Tyner now stands at 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the league, but Turner remained upbeat.
"We're in no different shape than we were before this all happened," he said. "If we win out, we still have a chance to finish second in the district and make the playoffs. That's all the kids are focusing on. We're just going to keep working and keep playing."
First-place Hixson a (5-2, 3-0) already owns a win over Tyner, but second-place Red Bank (2-4, 2-0) still has games remaining against both the Rams and Wildcats this season.
Tyner's other remaining games are against Howard, Brainerd and East Ridge, giving the Rams a shot at finishing 4-2 in district play.
