Ridgeland clinches state berth, Heritage tops Northwest again
Ridgeland and River Ridge wrapped up Region 7-AAAA's final two playoff spots Tuesday night, but it's top-seeded Heritage who is in the driver's seat in region tournament play at Heritage Point Park.

The Generals blasted rival Northwest Whitfield 9-0 in five innings in the winner's bracket final to advance to Thursday night's championship game. Heritage has now swept all three meetings between the two state powers this season.

The second-ranked Generals jumped on the third-ranked Bruins with five runs in the first and added four more in the fifth. Katie Pritchett's walk-off three-run homer clinched the victory.

Northwest will not face River Ridge at 5 p.m. ET Thursday, with the winner advancing to play Heritage for the region's top overall seed in next week's state bracket.

River Ridge clinched its spot in the state tournament with an 8-0 win over Dalton earlier Tuesday, then stayed alive for a first-round home series by beating Ridgeland 6-5. Katelyn Brack's two-run single in the sixth proved to be the difference.

Ridgeland clinched a spot in the state tournament for the first time in five years with a 1-0 win over Cass earlier Tuesday. With the loss to River Ridge, the Panthers will be the region's No. 4 seed in the state tournament and travel to the Region 5-AAAA champion.
