Metro police and FBI arrest alleged serial bank robber

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Acting on a citizen's tip, members of the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force and Metro police officers arrested ex-convict Terry Lee Newsome, Saturday morning.

Authorities believe he robbed two Nashville banks this week and a local convenience store on September 25th.

Newsome, 47, is a convicted robber who registered with the Nashville police department as an ex-con on August 27th, was located at a home on Green Street.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Newsome is charged federally with robbing US Bank's 1125 Murfreesboro Pike branch on Monday and the 747 Fesslers Lane branch on Tuesday.

South Precinct detectives have also believe he robbed the Mapco convenience store at 1191 Murfreesboro Pike at knifepoint on September 25th.

Newsome is being held in the Metro Jail with appearances pending in both state and federal court.
