MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Lake Johnson surged early and Scott Stevens surged late, but in the end neither Chattanooga Christian star was able to secure a state championship.
The CCS duo settled for top five individual finishes Wednesday at the TSSAA Class A/AA boys state golf tournament at Willowbrook Club. Stevens shot a final round 4-under 68 and finished in a tie for third, while Johnson faded from his first-round lead to end up tied for fifth.
CPA's Grayson Davis won medalist honors in a playoff over Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong. Both shot final rounds of 3-under 69 to finish with a two-round total of 5-under 139.
Alcoa posted a team score of 591 to win its first-ever state championship by an impressive 17 shots. Notre Dame shot 627 to finish fifth as a team, led by Alexander Riddle's tenth-place finish.
Madison Balthrop finished tenth as an individual to lead Boyd-Buchanan to a sixth-place effort on the girls' side. Meigs County's Kaitlyn Sneed was two shots behind her in 12th, while Signal Mountain's Bethany Burns rounded out the top 15.
CAK's Sophia Schubert blew away the field by eleven shots to win medalist honors. Sullivan South claimed the girls' team title by eight shots over Macon County.
