Deal expands Untangle's reach in network software and appliances for SMB market
SUNNYVALE, Calif. and MIDVALE, Utah, Oct. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Untangle, Inc., a network software and appliance company, today announced the acquisition of Cymphonix Corporation, enhancing its bandwidth management and application control offerings. The acquisition also expands Untangle's reach into larger businesses and schools. For Cymphonix, the deal provides access to additional technology, web-based infrastructure, and investment capital.
"As a leader in the SMB market, Untangle has always followed a customer-centric, web-driven approach for its IT offerings," said Bob Walters, CEO of Untangle. "We intend to bring this same spirit of simplification to the comprehensive network traffic analysis and control solution offered by Cymphonix in the medium business market."
Untangle simplifies unified threat management (UTM) for network administrators and IT decision-makers by offering a transparently priced, complete solution available as a software download or on a turnkey appliance direct from their website.
Cymphonix was founded in 2004 and is based in Midvale, Utah. Like Untangle, the company strives to simplify network management for overburdened IT departments, improving Internet performance and reducing bandwidth costs.
"Cymphonix has been helping medium businesses and larger campuses make their networks run better for nearly a decade," said Walters. "They give customers the ability to examine every bit of data running across the wire and make it easy to ensure a rock-solid, high-availability, lightning-fast connection to the Internet. We believe that the strength of the Cymphonix offering combined with Untangle's go-to-market model will accelerate the growth of both organizations."
Cymphonix products will continue to be marketed and sold by Cymphonix via their website and from channel partners. Both Untangle and Cymphonix are privately held.
The deal also kicks off Untangle's new merger and acquisition strategy. The company is pursuing strategic acquisitions of companies with related technologies in the SMB market.
"We're bringing a decade of experience successfully selling IT to SMB, a notoriously challenging space. We believe a disciplined approach in sales, marketing and operations, combined with a web-based infrastructure, have enabled us to crack the code when it comes to SMB IT," said Walters.
Untangle will target companies that could benefit from leveraging its infrastructure and expertise. The company believes this strategy will be a catalyst for growth and help solidify its position as a leader in SMB IT.
