Huntsville, AL -

Many in the Tennessee Valley reported seeing a strange object streak across the sky Saturday evening. Several calls WAFF received from viewers indicated the object was visible for 10-20 seconds before disappearing from view.

NASA's Bill Cooke said that the object was a fireball. The American Meteor Society logged 81 sightings of the object as it flew across the skies over Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Cooke said the event occurred between 6:40 and 6:45 p.m. Unfortunately, this was 45 minutes before NASA's dedicated light-sensitive cameras automatically power on, and photos or videos of the event have been hard to come by.

Cooke said the object terminated, or burnt up, over Atlanta without incident.
