Metro police break ground on Edgehill precinct

Posted: Updated:

By this time next year, people in a busy part of Nashville will be closer to a police officer.

City leaders broke ground on the new Midtown Hills police precinct on Tuesday.

Metro Police Chief Steve Anderson said they analyzed where the greatest need was and came up with the area between Nolensville road and Hillsboro Road.

The new precinct is on 12th Avenue South, north of Wedgewood, which will serve the Edgehill community.

"Edgehill has pulled itself up by its own bootstraps over the last few years, and you can see by the development going on around. And the citizens I worked with in the 1970s are seeing its return to the glory days," Anderson said.

In addition to Edgehill, officers will cover Green Hills, Forest Hills, Oak Hill, Crieve Hall and Nippers Corner.

The precinct is expect to open by the middle of 2014.
