CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Editors of PBS's "This Old House" have named 61 neighborhoods considered to that have promising futures, strong communities, and homes worthy of a long-term commitment.

Ranging from big cities to small towns, editors looked across North America to find unique, tight-knit neighborhoods for their sixth annual search for the Best Old-House Neighborhoods.

Chattanooga's St. Elmo district was among those named.

The editors said: "Though its homes and buildings suffered from neglect when many residents left for the suburbs in the 1960s and 1970s, the neighborhood has been on an upswing. Today, owners of all ages and walks of life are restoring historic houses to their original splendor, and small businesses have been emerging in the commercial district built around the intersection of St. Elmo and Tennessee Avenues."
