FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

A Franklin police officer was uninjured after a driver smashed into the officer's patrol car while it was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 65 near Moore's Lane early Tuesday.

According to police, a DUI traffic stop was being performed on the side of the road about 4 a.m. when a driver failed to observe the Move Over Law and hit the officer's vehicle.

The police cruiser was unoccupied at the time of the collision.

Police said the driver who caused the collision was cited for violation of the Move Over Law, which is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and 30 days in jail.

Preliminary statistics from the Department of Safety indicate this is the 34th crash involving a roadside emergency vehicle this year in Tennessee in which the Move Over law was disregarded, Franklin police said.
