NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville woman whose simple life as a golf coach at Tennessee State University is now attracting national attention, as Catana Starks is about to go Hollywood.

The story of her career as the men's golf coach at TSU will be told on the big screen nationwide.

The movie, titled From the Rough, comes out this fall. It's the story of her time at TSU as the first woman ever to coach a men's golf team.

She and the team were initially ridiculed until success slowly came to the team.

"I hope it goes to women around the country that you can strive to do something, and if you work really hard, you can be successful at it and don't give up. I never gave up, no matter how hard it was or how difficult it was," Starks said.

Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson plays Starks in the film, capturing her rules-oriented, no-nonsense style with her team.

"You had to be on time. Guys would say to me all the time, 'Coach, we're the only people here at the tournament.' I'd say, 'Yes, the first people are the best people, so you guys are here first, and you're gonna warm up properly,'" Starks said.

So, now in retirement, Starks will make room for Hollywood and the red carpet without ever taking her eye off that ball.

"I promised myself when I retired I was gonna play golf as much as I could, and that's what I'm doing," she said. "What else is there to do? I love this game."

Starks also has a big tie to one of the world's most popular golfers. While coaching at TSU, one of her players was a young man named Sean Foley. Today, Foley is Tiger Woods' personal golf instructor.

So, Starks can honestly say she taught the guy who now helps Woods become a better golfer.
