A Georgia woman has died after the driveshaft of another vehicle dislodged and flew through the windshield of the vehicle in which she was a passenger Monday on Interstate 24.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Anne Hudson, of Canton, GA, was pronounced dead after she was transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to a preliminary THP report, the driveshaft fell off a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by a Lebanon man about 10:20 a.m. along the eastbound lanes near La Vergne.

The driveshaft struck the tire of a second vehicle and then continued in motion toward the windshield of a 2008 Chevy Equinox driven by Leroy Hudson, 77, of Canton, GA.

The object went through the windshield, injuring Ms. Hudson.

The driver of the Dodge Ram faces a charge of driving without insurance, according to THP.
