Sinkhole reopens on I-24 in Montgomery County

Posted: Updated:

A sinkhole reopened along I-24 in Montgomery County on Saturday.

According to TDOT, crews patched the sinkhole that's blocked one of the eastbound lanes for about eight hours.

TDOT's Community Relations Officer, Deanna Lambert said, the rain overnight loosened the ground causing the hole to reopen.

It's the same sinkhole that a driver first discovered last month.

On Aug. 20, someone noticed a crack in the eastbound lanes near Mile Marker 8. When TDOT crews arrived, a sinkhole opened up at least 25 feet wide.

Part of the interstate was blocked for hours until it was patched up.

TDOT believes it opened up along a drainage ditch and the ground caved in.
