Another postage price hike looms

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Postal Service has announced that it is the midst of a financial disaster which may mean higher postage for consumers.

An emergency increase in postage stamps may be coming soon.

That's the latest word from the Postmaster General.

This year, the Post Office stands to lose about 6 billion dollars.  Last year it suffered losses of 16 billion dollars.

January 27th was the last time the agency raised the postage rate.

Lawmakers are being asked for swift action on enacting legislation to fix the agency's financial problems.

But in the meantime, the Postal Service's Board of Governors could decide as early as next week whether to request a special rate increase
