Columbia utility officials discussing possible removal of fluoride from water

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -

Utility officials in Columbia are getting an earful about a move to remove fluoride from the drinking water.

The Columbia Power and Water Systems Board is deciding if they should stop using the chemical.

Dentists say fluoride promotes tooth health, especially in young kids, but others say the chemical is dangerous and people should have the choice not to drink it.

About 30,000 people get their water from Columbia's system.

The board will decide if the fluoride should be removed next Wednesday.
