Tennessee St. stops Jackson St. comeback, 26-16

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Daniel Fitzpatrick returned a fourth-quarter interception 50 yards for a touchdown to secure a 26-16 Tennessee State win over Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic Saturday night.

Fitzpatrick was the fourth defensive back for Tennessee State (2-1) to pick off a pass by Jackson State quarterback Clayton Moore.

In the second quarter, Tennessee State's De'Ante Saunders returned an interception 78 yards to the Jackson State 29, setting up a field goal to put Tennessee State up 9-7. Jackson State kicked a field goal to lead 10-9 at halftime.

Following Fitzpatrick's touchdown, Jackson State (1-2) mounted a comeback, punching in a 1-yard scoring run but missing the 2-point conversion and then failing to recover the onside kick.

Tennessee State is 13-11 all-time in the Southern Heritage Classic.
