KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

Dennis and Shirley Hoffman were asleep in a back bedroom of their West Knoxville house Wednesday morning when they were shaken awake.

"It shook the bed and woke us up," Hoffman said. "The whole house shook. We knew there had been a wreck."

The wreck claimed the lives of two people in a truck that crashed into the front bedroom of Hoffmans' house at 2110 Sanderson Road about 1:30 a.m.

The impact apparently ruptured the gas tank of the 1970s Chevrolet pickup, setting the truck and house afire, according to Knoxville Fire Department Capt. D.J. Corcoran.
