UPDATE: Gas leak disrupts classes at East Ridge High School

Posted: Updated:
EAST RIDGE, TN (WRCB) -

Classes were disrupted first thing Tuesday morning at East Ridge High School due to a gas leak.

Crews working on water lines behind the school accidentally hit a gas line. The leak was outside the building but located near the back of the structure.

Gas was shut off and students were evacuated as a precaution.

The East Ridge Fire Department took natural gas readings inside the school, and multiple rooms were found to have high readings.

Officials say the air conditioning units for rooms near the leak drew the gas inside the building.

The room were ventilated and the leak was repaired.

Students returned to class approximately 30 minutes after the initial leak.
