An accident involving a children's swing ride at the Norwalk Oyster Festival injured at least 13 children Sunday afternoon.
According to the Norwalk Police Deputy Chief said the ride suddenly stopped and the riders were still spinning around bumping into other riders.
The Norwalk Police department said most of the children received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Many children were being treated for bumps and bruised. Initial reports were that several more were seriously injured, but their conditions have since been downgraded.
Those injured children were transported to Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport Hospitals.
A representative from the State Fire Marshal's office was called to the scene to conduct the investigation , as they inspect and oversee the companies that provide these services, the Norwalk Police department said.
Norwalk Police Chief Tom Kulhawik announced on his Twitter page that the Oyster Festival is still open but the rides are currently closed. Rides could reopen depending on the state inspectors findings.
The festival, which runs all weekend is sponsored by the Norwalk Seaport Association. Sunday is family day at the event.
