The Tennessee Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in locating a vehicle and driver that may be connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 40.
Carol Ann Williamson, 56, of Huntington, WV, was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe westbound on I-40 at mile marker 128 about 1:10 a.m. Thursday when an unknown vehicle hit her in the rear driver side.
The impact caused Carol Ann Williamson's car to spin off the roadway, strike a culvert and overturn several times. The at-fault vehicle did not stop.
Alice Williamson, 83, also of Huntington, WV, was a passenger in the car and was killed. Carol Ann Williamson was transported to a local hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect vehicle may have been a tractor-trailer.
There were also two people injured in a crash of two tractor-trailers about 5:20 a.m. near the original crash scene. One of those trucks had a ruptured fuel tank.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information about the wreck is urged to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol Jackson District Office at 731-423-6635 or dial *THP (*847) on a mobile device.
