One person has been injured in an experimental plane crash in Macon County.

Lafayette police report the plane crashed in a soybean field along Highway 52 around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The pilot and his girlfriend were trying to get to a nearby lake when there was an engine problem, according to a friend.

The woman was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration reports the single-engine Drifter experimental aircraft landed due to unknown mechanical problems.

The Lafayette Police and Fire Department responded to the call.

The plane has been moved to a hangar and the FAA is investigating the incident.
