RHEA COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

Landon Wells had a future, one his father Gerald wanted to shape.

"That was my only son and I really had plans to love him," says Gerald Wells, Landon's father.

But Gerald Wells' son can't realize the dreams of his father. The family said Landon died Friday while in the care of a female relative in Spring City.

"He loved to play and he loved to laugh," says Wells. "What I think happened is the boy she's with, abused him, because he probably wouldn't go to sleep and that's how he was sometimes."

Gerald Wells said Landon suffered a broken arm, broken nose and head injuries.

"He was the most precious kid." Landon's grandfather Jerry Wells, saw Landon's body and said at first he couldn't recognize him,  "There was just no telling what he went through, he was just a big bruise."

"Anybody that would take a poor little, innocent 5-year-old boy and do the things they did to him, there's no forgiveness for that kind of people."

"I just hope they see what they done. I hope they open their eyes," says Gerald.

The Rhea County Jail says the suspects, Bradley Adcox and Jessica Robbins, are charged with first degree murder and aggravated child abuse and neglect. More charges are pending. They are being held without bond.
It has not been confirmed if those charged are relatives of Landon's.

Detectives are still waiting on the results of the autopsy.

The family is planning a vigil for Landon for this Friday.

They're also accepting donations to help pay for his funeral.
