NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Friday was a very special graduation day for more than 60 Tennesseans who have faced debilitating physical or mental challenges in their lives.

The young men and women took a big step from rehab and recovery at the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center to the next step: life in the work force.

They have been learning to live with autism, brain injuries or other life-changing physical impairments, but their accomplishments have set them up for a lifetime of success.

Justin Woods has Asperger syndrome, which can affect communication, vocal skills or even make one a little bit shy. So it was amazing that he would ask to give the commencement address.

"I'd like to challenge my fellow graduates to remember the lessons we've learned here at Tennessee Rehab Center, that our disabilities do not have to prevent us from being successful in life, and with a great attitude and hard work, there's nothing we can't do. I wish everyone the best of luck. God Bless and thank you," Woods said, to a standing ovation.

It was a standing ovation kind of day for all the graduates, including Monterey's Jordan Rines, who walked with pride.

"I was excited and very happy," Rines said.

She never doubted this day, and the diploma, would come.

"Because I was a hard worker. I listen and get it done right," she said.

Now, these graduates are all qualified and ready to work in the workforce. Employers in need of motivated achievers? Here they come.

Food service, commercial cleaning, grounds keeping and auto maintenance are just a few of the areas these young men and women are qualified for and ready to get started.
