Nashville business owner offers help to flood victims

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

We've seen time and time again in Middle Tennessee that tragedy brings people together. And after flash flooding earlier this month, a business owner pledged to help a young couple a chance to get back on their feet.

The owner of Guac Mexican Grill followed through on that promise Thursday, when he presented the couple with a check.

Over the past couple of weeks, Rakesh Berry has collected donations for them after their home was badly damaged by rising waters.

Samantha Atchley said she needed help via Facebook, and Berry immediately stepped in with a helping hand.

"It was an impulse decision that came to me. I had to do this. I saw the post and immediately reacted because I know what a flood can do to you," Berry said.

Atchley said the whole Donelson community came through, including Berry, to help cover their bills, insurance and even rent.

"Now, he's like family. He's helped us a lot. He told us we're like brother and sister. We've got to stick together," she said.
