A benefit was held Sunday for 11-month-old Sadie Lane Smith, who is battling a serious but treatable form of cancer.

While Sadie Smith may not realize it, a lot of folks are standing with her as she struggles with cancer and are helping her parents with mounting medical bills.

The benefit was held outside The Beehive Salon on Sunday afternoon.

"We are holding a cut-a-thon, silent auction and a concert," said salon owner Tracy Tucker. "Several booths have been set up selling Sadie swag. We have a kids fun zone and food vendors here."

Sadie Smith was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. It may be treatable, but fighting it is another story. Sadie Smith has been in and out of the hospital. She is halfway through four rounds of chemotherapy.

"It can be emotionally draining," said Jacob Smith, Sadie's father. "We take it a day at a time. We wake up each morning. God is going to get us through the day."

It's that trust in God that has gotten Jacob and Meghan Smith through the tough times.

"We put our hope and trust in Him," said Jacob Smith. "He's the ultimate one taking care of Sadie."

The outpouring of support from their friends, neighbors and community is another pillar for the Smith family to lean.

"It's overwhelming. I try to keep myself from crying," said Jacob Smith. "It's great support. We ask people to pray for Sadie."

Sunday's fundraiser will help the Smiths pay down the mounting medical bills.

There's also another important benefit for the family.

"It also creates awareness for us as a family," said Jacob Smith. "We ask people to pray for Sadie and remember her in their prayers."

The Smiths are hopeful the cancer will not return.

"We are hopeful one day she won't be in danger of this coming back," said Jacob Smith.
