Nashville Symphony, musicians ratify new one-year contract

Posted: Updated:

The Nashville Musicians Association and the Nashville Symphony Association have ratified a new one-year contract, according to a statement released by the orchestra musicians' union.

The contract goes into effect immediately and will run through July 31, 2014.

The previous contract between the symphony and the musicians expired on Aug. 1, and the months-long negotiations were framed by the symphony's recent troubles, including near bankruptcy and a threatened foreclosure sale of the famed concert hall.

In July, one of the symphony's biggest supporters, Martha Ingram, stepped in with a big donation to help in negotiations with the bank.

And in the midst of all that, the musicians' union was already looking ahead to its contract talks with the symphony.

In a statement released in April, the musicians' association pointed to orchestras across the country, who have been dealing with strikes and lockouts.
