NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A murder case that is nearly two years old is now being assigned to a cold case detective with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Ed Wisdom Jr., a popular and well-respected director of information technology at Tennessee State for nearly 40 years, was killed outside his home on Moorewood Drive on Oct. 28, 2011.

The victim's son, Ed Wisdom III, said he is optimistic the case will be solved despite the time lag.

"I continue to have hope because it will be solved very soon," Ed Wisdom III said. "The Lord has granted me something I've never had before, and that's patience."

There were no eyewitnesses to the murder of the 71-year-old man.

"No one was outside when my father was murdered. Some may have come out when they heard the gunshot. But no one was out at the time he was shot," Ed Wisdom III said. "I've already found peace in trying to continue in my father's spirit. But every family wants to see justice, or some sense of resolve."
