Hundreds of troops return from Afghanistan to Fort Campbell

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (WSMV) -

Members of the First Brigade combat team Bastogne marched back on post and into the arms of loved ones Monday at Fort Campbell.

And, as you might imagine, there were plenty of tears among the hundreds of moms, dads, husbands, wives and children who were anxiously awaiting the reunions.

"This is the best day of our lives," said Taryn Donahue, wife of Staff Sgt. Branigan Donahue.

The more than 300 soldiers have spent the past nine months in Afghanistan.

"I'm just happy to see my family," Branigan Donahue said.

The return home meant Branigan Donahue got to see his daughter for the very first time.

"All of a sudden, right before he deployed, we found out we were pregnant," Taryn Donahue said. "He missed the whole thing, but this is definitely worth it."

This was the seventh group from the Bastogne team to come back from Afghanistan since mid-July. Another group is scheduled to return to Fort Campbell on Tuesday.
