Shooting at Covington law firm leaves one dead

COVINGTON, LA (WWL-TV) -

According to WWL-TV in New Orleans, police are investigating a shooting at a law firm on North Columbia Street in Covington, LA.

Interim Covington Police Chief Jack West says "dozens" of rounds were fired by a man.

Reports say a secretary was the only person at the Upton Law Firm at 816 N. Columbia Street. The secretary was uninjured, but WWL-TV says that there is a person dead inside the building.

No details about that person were given by police.

According to WWL-TV, the owner of the law firm, Tim Upton, said the shooter was a former client. Upton says the person shot a gun outside the law firm, walked in shooting and then shot himself.

According to Covington Police, there is not an search ongoing for a suspect, but advises the public to be aware of the traffic tie up around area.
