NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV-AP) -

Vanderbilt basketball point guard and leading scorer Kedren Johnson has been suspended from the university for one year and removed from the team.

Johnson, a Lewisburg native, started all 33 games as a sophomore last season and led the team in both scoring and assists.

In a letter addressed to fans released by the athletic department Monday, Johnson said his suspension is a result "of using some very poor judgement" and that he was in "violation of the good conduct expected of all Vanderbilt students."

Further details on the reason for the suspension were not released, but the statement indicated it took place near the end of the last school year.

Vanderbilt also announced Monday that guard Kevin Bright has left the team to sign with the Fraport Skyliners of Frankfort, Germany. Bright averaged 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds last season as a freshman from Mannheim, Germany.

Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said Bright wanted to be near his ailing mother.
