Truck driver dies after crash with motorcycle near Independence

Posted: Updated:

A crash between a sport motorcycle and a pickup on Highway 51 north of Independence killed one man.

Oregon State Police say a pickup driven by 77-year-old Billy Austin was turning left into a private driveway and went into the path of the sport motorcycle driven by 22-year-old Bradley Mosey.

Mosey hit the right front of the pickup and was thrown from his motorcycle onto the hood of the truck and through the windshield coming to rest in the rear seats of the truck.

Both Austin and Mosey were taken by helicopter to Salem Hospital, where Austin was pronounced dead.

Mosey suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and is being treated at the hospital.

Troopers think Mosey's helmet and safety gear helped minimize his injuries.

Witnesses told OSP that neither the motorcycle nor the pickup were speeding at the time of the crash.

Troopers do not believe that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
