Dogs from Cheatham Co. animal shelter test positive for parvo
ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -
Another Middle Tennessee animal shelter is dealing with the deadly parvovirus. The Cheatham County animal shelter isn't taking in any animals right now after two puppies adopted from there tested positive.
As a precaution, the shelter has suspended intake until Wednesday, July 31.
Workers are disinfecting the facility, but say right now, no other animals are showing any symptoms.
"We don't have any animals that are exhibiting any signs of it. Therefore, there's no need to euthanize for it. We are cleaning the facility to prevent spread to any other animals," said TJ Jordi, with Cheatham County Animal Control.
The shelter will still adopt out all cats or dogs that have been vaccinated against parvovirus.
Last month, the Robertson County animal shelter had to shut down for several days and put down a dozen dogs because of a parvo outbreak.
