Burglars use sledgehammer to rob Charlotte pharmacy

Posted: Updated:

Thieves apparently planned to steal so much from a Dickson County pharmacy, they brought giant plastic tubs into the store.

Security cameras caught the burglars at Charlotte's Hometown Pharmacy.

Officials said the crooks shattered the glass door with a sledgehammer Saturday morning, and raked several bottles of prescription medications off the shelves. The two ran out of the store hauling painkillers including Loritab and were gone in just two minutes.

"It's very frightening," said Charlotte Hometown Pharmacy owner Stephanie Wallace. "It's scary. You don't want to think something like that can happen in your own backyard."

Sheriff's officials said they don't believe these are first-time criminals.

"There's a similar case that we observed in Southaven, Mississippi," said Detective Troy Martin. "They came, used a tire iron to smash the front door, and went in with totes and storage containers."

"I would just like to see them off the streets, so they can't do it again," said Wallace.

Investigators said the pair were each wearing a gray and black hooded sweatshirt with hoods. They were wearing gloves to keep their fingerprints off any items. Their faces were covered from the surveillance cameras. Officials believe the burglars were traveling in what appears to be a Nissan Quest, or a similar dark colored newer-model minivan.

If you have any information that could help investigators, call the Dickson County Sheriff's Office.
