State troopers are searching for a suspected wrong-way driver after a crash killed one person on I-24 in Rutherford County early Saturday morning.

Police were out along Industrial Boulevard near Mason Road in La Vergne Saturday afternoon. Multiple police cars and a helicopter were taking part in the search. Extra units were called out to provide water, and some officers had to be treated for heat exhaustion, La Vergne PIO Kathy Tyson told Channel 4.

Troopers say Ruben Prado-Pena of Nashville was driving a Chevy Tahoe on I-24 East near Sam Ridley Parkway, and hit another car head on.

Cynthia Joyner, a 31-year-old woman from Chattanooga, was killed. The driver and another passenger in the car were taken to the hospital.

Troopers say Prado-Pena, 35, ran off after the wreck. Authorities are urging him to turn himself in, and asking family or friends to help find him.

The crash shut down the interstate for about five hours. Police believe alcohol was involved.
