Cheatham Co. schools looking to cut millions from budget

ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

Cheatham County school officials are scrambling to cut millions from the upcoming budget after the county commission said "no" to any extra funding.

This week, the district asked county commissioners for $5.4 million to pay for things like new technology and a bonus for certified employees. Another $2 million would pay for increases in the district's health insurance plan.

Now, leaders say they may have to cut the budget for school band and bus maintenance instead.

Schools Director Stan Curtis told Channel 4 News the cuts won't impact students in the classroom.
