1 dead, another wounded in north Nashville shooting

One man has died and another is in critical condition after a shooting and crash Thursday afternoon in north Nashville.

Officers were called about 2 p.m. to the 800 block of 28th Avenue North near Booker Street, where they found two men wounded near a crashed Ford Explorer.

Police say shots had been fired into the Explorer, and as the men drove away, they ran a stop sign and were struck by a Lincoln Town Car.

The SUV flipped, and Harold Carr, 27, died at the scene, police said.

The other man, Sidney Alonzo Stuart, 28, ran a short distance before collapsing with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

Police said upon his release from the hospital, Stuart will be charged on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault after allegedly firing shots toward his girlfriend in August 2012.

Two suspects ran away, and police are using K-9 officers and the Metro police helicopter to search the area.

No other information has been released, including descriptions of the suspects. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and police ask anyone with information in the case to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
