Man with rocket causes scare at Army supply store

Posted: Updated:

A young man with a military-style rocket caused a big scare this week at an Army supply store in Cookeville.

It happened at the GI Depot store on West Seventh Street, according to a report in the Herald- Citizen.

The man told an employee that he had worked out a deal with the store owner to sell the item, described as a WWII-era M8 rocket, for $20.

Fearing the 36-inch rocket would detonate, the employee decided to call police.

Because of the nature of the 911 call, police set up a perimeter around the store with firefighters on standby.

Police confiscated the rocket and later learned it was not live.

The customer said he had more rockets at his home, but when police searched his residence, they did not locate anymore.
