5 Mocs named to Phil Steele's preseason All-American teams

CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team received a ton of individual recognition from Phil Steele's College Football Preview this week.

Five Mocs were named Preseason All-American, 12 were listed among the top players in the nation at their positions and six were among the top-100 FCS players at any position.

Junior defensive end Davis Tull continued to rack up preseason accolades with his selection to the All-American First Team. Steele pegged him as the No. 1 defensive end in the nation and the No. 7 overall player in the FCS.

He is one of four members of the Mocs' defense to earn preseason All-American honors and one of five to be listed as a top-100 player.

UTC's other preseason All-Americans were all on the third team, including senior LB Wes Dothard, senior DB's Kadeem Wise and D.J. Key and junior TE Faysal Shafaat. Dothard and Wise have already earned preseason accolades from other entities, but this is the first recognition for Shafaat and Key.

Shafaat is the No. 3 tight end and No. 53 overall player. Wise, Key and senior defensive tackle Derrick Lott (Kennesaw, Ga.) are all No. 6 in the country at their respective positions. Key (39), Wise (49), Lott (93) and Dothard (98) are all listed among the top-100 players in the country.

Steele also produced a Preseason All-Southern Conference team that selected Tull as the Defensive Player of the Year. There were nine positions filled by Mocs on the two teams, including five on the first team defense.
