Heat safety tips

Posted: Updated:

Highs in the 90s this week along with increasing humidity will make for uncomfortable and possibly dangerous conditions outside. Follow these tips to stay safe in the heat and avoid heat exhaustion/stroke:

  • Exercise early in the day (before 10am) or in the early evening to avoid the hottest temperatures
  • Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty. Your body will thank you!
  • Wear light-colored clothing to reflect as much heat as possible; also, your clothes should be loose-fitting so they're more "breathable"
  • If working outdoors take short, frequent breaks throughout the day as opposed to one long break at lunch time
  • Don't ever leave children, the elderly, or pets in vehicles without the air conditioning on. Temperatures inside vehicles can quickly soar to 110+ and become very dangerous.
