KINGSTON SPRINGS, TN (WSMV) -

Two people from New York were hurt when their motorcycle crashed along westbound Interstate 40 near Kingston Springs.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 59-year-old man, with a 55-year-old female passenger - both from Ronkonkoma, NY - was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle that was pulling a trailer.

Just before 4 p.m., the rear tire of the trailer blew out at mile marker 188, causing the trailer to sway and the driver to lose control of the motorcycle.

The driver and passenger then slid on the roadway, THP said.

Westbound lanes of I-40 were shut down for a short time as medics attended to the injured. The man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where his condition is unknown.

The passenger sustained minor injuries, THP said.

Both people were wearing safety helmets.
