MONTEREY, TN (WSMV) -

The former police chief in Monterey has been indicted on a count of official misconduct after he was accused of misusing equipment on his personal property.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Kevin Jerry Phillips, 44, was booked Tuesday into the Putnam County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Phillips is suspected of having a bulldozer delivered to his property, where he was making changes to the property, TBI said.

The district attorney requested a TBI investigation into the matter, and Phillips has since resigned from the department.
