UPDATE, Friday July 5, 3:40 p.m.:  Hamilton County Commissioner Joe Graham has pledged $4,000 from his discretionary funds to the Red Bank High Brick Students project.

RED BANK, TN (WRCB) - Red Bank High School graduates are busily working to preserve the brick man and woman on the front of their old school, the soon to be demolished Red Bank Middle School.  The original school on Dayton Boulevard was built in 1938.  In 1955 several additions were made, including an auditorium, more classrooms and a cafeteria. A local artist designed a brick sculpture of a man and woman to represent the growth of the students in Red Bank.

In 1982,  the High School and Middle School (then on Morrison Springs Road) switched campuses to allow for the expansion of the high school to grades 9-12.  For the past fifteen years, Hamilton County school officials have recognized the need to replace the aging middle school facility, finally getting the go-ahead for construction in 2011.  The new facility, adjacent to the current high school on Morrison Springs Road will open in August.

Although graduates of the old high school are excited about the new construction, they're saddened by the impending demolition of their alma mater.  Recently, many of them toured the aging building for one last time.  They shared stories of pep rallies, sports events, and dances. The building they knew as Red Bank High School is now silent, and will soon disappear to make way for residential, recreational, commercial and business development.

Here is a statement from organizers who are working to save and restore the iconic brick people that have welcomed students since 1955:

PLEASE send in your donation SOON! Make payable to: "City of Red Bank" and note 'Save the Brick Students' on your check. Mail to: City of Red Bank 3117 Dayton Blvd Chatt. TN 37415
We have to raise $8,000.00 (which is at cost) for our brick students to be removed brick by brick and rebuilt into a free standing monument on the current high school campus.  The building is to be demolished on 7-22-13. We have to be in and out BEFORE THEN! ANY AMOUNT is appreciated, so please send your donation today!
