Rainfall from midnight through 11 a.m. Saturday totaled 1.18 inches, which broke the record for  of 1.08 inches for July 6. The old record was set back in 1932.

More rain fell after 11 a.m., so the total for the calendar day will be much greater.

From July 3 through 11 a.m. Saturday, 3.98 inches has fallen at Nashville International Airport.

A deep, southerly flow of tropical moisture continues to move across Middle Tennessee, producing widespread and persistent showers through the weekend.  A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 a.m. Sunday.

Flood advisories are currently in effect for three creeks and rivers in Middle Tennessee: Richland Creek in Giles County above Pulaski, the Red River at Port Royal (affecting Montgomery and Robertson Counties), and the Tennessee River at Clifton (in northwest Wayne County).  A Flood Advisory means a creek or river is high and may impact low-lying agricultural land or parks but is not expected to reach flood stage.

Those who live in flood-prone areas should monitor water levels, and motorists should use extra caution while driving (especially at night), as areas of heavy rainfall may produce rapid rises in small streams and creeks.

The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management said late Friday it is working with other local agencies to monitor the situation and prepare resources for potential flash flooding problems should they occur.

Metro Water Services crews have cleared clogs at storm drains known as trouble spots across the county, and the Nashville Emergency Operations Center stands ready to be activated if needed.
