LEBANON, TN (WSMV) -

A dangerous criminal is back in police custody after a miscommunication between two judicial commissioners in Wilson County meant he had a few days of freedom.

When Terrace Shaw went before a judicial commissioner in Lebanon on June 12, the commissioner had no idea how dangerous Shaw was, according to District Attorney General Tommy Thompson.

"She wasn't told what the detective told the initial commissioner. She wasn't told that this person is a dangerous person and needed a higher bail," said Thompson.

Shaw, who was on probation for invading the home of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent in 2011, stood before the commissioner for another home invasion in early June, including aggravated robbery.

The commissioner ordered Shaw released on a $2,000 bond.

According to a warrant, Shaw committed another crime at the Lebanon Plaza Inn just 10 days after being released. Police said Shaw robbed a man at gunpoint in his room. Shaw was identified by the victim in a photo line-up.

The Judicial Commissioner didn't do her homework when she set a low bail for Shaw, Thompson told Channel 4 News.

"It was a mistake made, it was a lack of diligence. It's absurd. She set the $2,000 bond, but once she set it, it was too late, because the guy was gone. I hope and pray that no one is hurt trying to arrest this guy who should never have been released," said Thompson.

Thompson said he spoke with the commissioner shortly after he was informed of the low bond for Shaw.

"I talked to the judicial commissioner who set the bond, of course she was sick to her stomach after she realized what she had done. But you can't un ring the bell," said Thompson.

Shaw was placed on the TBI's 10 most wanted list, and he was captured Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Lebanon Police Department and Metro Nashville Police Department.

He will be booked into the Wilson County Jail, the TBI said.
