Shoppers prepare for Fourth at fireworks stores

EAST BRAINERD, TN (WRCB) -

Shoppers in East Ridge were out in full forcepreparing for the Fourth of July holiday. 

Cartswere filled to the top at 1A with sparklers, firecrackers and festive partyfavors. 1A is the first store to open their doors to the public in East Ridge.

"The game plan was to spend a couple of hundred bucks but that isn't going to happen," says one shopper.

"Compared to last year's numbers, sales areup substantially. We open year round, which helps us keep our prices down 20-30percent compared to the other options in town," the owner Keesha Woodard says.

Monday marked this locally owned stores one year anniversary. 

Starting the business was no easy task - in fact Keesha's father shared the hard fight, countless rounds of paperwork and years it took to finally get the clearance from the city to sell fireworks in East Ridge.

"It took 15 years to get the law passed so we could sell fireworks," says Woodard.
