Three TN kids hit by lightning after hiding under tree during storm

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) It was dinner time on Oxford Street when suddenly a noise sent Mary Munn racing to her front door.

"Next thing we hear, BOOM," said Munn.  "We looked out the door I thought something may have hit a tree...no, it was three kids under the tree.  The lightening had hit them."

Munn rushed outside to help.

"One was face down, the other one was laying down hollering 'help, help, help'," Munn explained.

Police officers administered CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Neighbors didn't recognize the three young men. They said they were probably walking through the neighborhood and got up under a tree to get out of the pouring rain.

"Summer, kids walking a couple young ones, and just trying to get out the rain and I don't know...tragedy struck," stated neighbor Eric Green.

"And by the time they got up under that tree that's when it hit them," Munn said.

Under trees is one of the worst places to take shelter in dangerous weather.
