RECALL: Company expands recall of ground beef that could contain E. Coli

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday they had reason to believe that some retail stores may have received ground beef products that have been recalled by National Beef Packing Company.

The list may not include all of the retail locations that have received the recalled product or may include retail locations that did not actually receive the recalled product.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 10 lb. packages of National Beef 80/20 Coarse Ground Chuck, package code 0481
  • 10 lb. packages of "National Beef 81/19 Coarse Ground Beef, package code 0421
  • 10 lb. packages of National Beef 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, package code 0484

  • 10 lb. chub or tubular package of "National Beef" 93/ 7 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 0707
  • 10 lb. chub or tubular package of "NatureSource" 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, Product Code 7031
  • 10 lb. chub or tubular packageof "NatureSource" 85/15 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7054
  • 10 lb. chub or tubular packageof "NatureSource" 90/10 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7344
  • 10 lb. chub or tubular package of "NatureSource" 93/ 7 Fine Ground Beef, Product Code 7004
  • 10 lb. chub or tubular package of "NatureWell" 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, Product Code 7484

All these products have a "Use by/sell by date" of June 14, 2013, and bear the establishment number "EST. 208A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.  

Routine FSIS monitoring confirmed a positive result for E.coli, a bacteria found in are bacteria found in the environment, foods, and intestines of people and animals.

The products were produced on May 25, 2013, and shipped to various institutions and retail establishments in Texas, Tennessee, Kansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Arizona.  

One series of stores that could be involved is Food Outlet. There are several in the Tennessee Valley:

  • Chattanooga
  • Cleveland (2)
  • Trenton, GA
  • Murphy, NC

FSIS and the retail stores are concerned that some product may be frozen and in shoppers' freezers.
