LAFAYETTE, GA (WRCB) -

LaFayette police will not charge the man who drove into Fred's Store late Wednesday morning.

Captain Stacey Meeks says when patrol cars and the LaFayette Fire Department arrived at Fred's around 11:40 a.m., James Browns' 1997 GMC Suburban was 30 feet into the building and the aisles were destroyed.

Captain Meeks says Brown was parking his car when he accidentally allowed his car to go over the parking space and the front tires hopped over the parking curb.

Brown says that he pressed the brakes but eyewitness accounts say it looked like he pressed the accelerator.

Captain Meeks says generally with elderly couples when they panic in situations like that they do press the accelerator.

No one was injured.
