CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

A new report released Monday shows Tennessee and Georgia are among some of the worst states in America to be a kid.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation released its annual "Kids Count" report that ranks states on overall child well-being using an index of key indicators.

In overall child well-being, Tennessee ranks as the 39th worst state for kids to live. Georgia and Alabama rank slightly worse with the 43rd and 44th spots, respectively.

In the sub-categories, Tennessee ranks 37 in both the economic and family and community categories. In education, Tennessee ranks a bit worse at number 42. But in the health category, the Volunteer State ranks better with the 33rd spot.

For the first time ever, New Mexico is ranked as the worst state for overall child well-being. That spot was always occupied by Mississippi.

The report lists New Hampshire as the best state for overall child well-being.
