NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

People still recovering from the deadly tornado outbreak last month in Oklahoma are getting a lot of help from generous folks in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky.

Kroger and Channel 4 presented a check on Wednesday to the American Red Cross for $132,000.

After the disaster, grocery shoppers made donations totaling more than $82,000 at their check-out lanes, and Kroger added another $50,000 to the effort.

The Red Cross says people always step up to the plate when disaster strikes.

"We have many volunteers that put their hearts into the mission, but they have to have the funds needed to make it happen - which is the gas, food and fuel and blankets and tarps that we use," said Joel Sullivan, with the American Red Cross.

Channel 4's Demetria Kalodimos was on hand for the check presentation.
