AL new Caylee's Law goes into effect August 1st

Posted: Updated:

The law regarding the reporting of missing children has changed in Alabama.  Governor Robert Bentley signed Caylee's Law Monday in Montgomery.

The legislation makes it a criminal act not to report a missing or dead child.  It's named after the Florida child, Caylee Anthony, whose mother casey was on trial for her murder.

Failing to report a missing child will now be a class-A misdemeanor but will rise to a class-C felony if "willful or reckless regard" for the child results in death or serious injury.  The law takes affect August 1st.
